JCDecaux is a multinational advertising corporation based in France. The company was founded in 1964 in Lyon (France) by Jean-Claude Decaux. Over the years it has expanded aggressively, partly through acquisitions of smaller advertising companies in several countries. It currently operates in more than 54 countries, 165 airports and has approximately 9.000 employees.
JCDecaux is present in 54 countries worldwide. JCDecaux is number one worldwide in street furniture number one worldwide in street furniture with more than 351,000 advertising panels.
With 386,000 transport panels (airports, undergrounds, buses, trains, trams…) in more than 300 transport networks (14 countries) and 145 airports worldwide (16 countries), JCDecaux is Number 1 worldwide in Transport Advertising.
Also JCDecaux is number one in billboards in Europe with more than 215,000 advertising panels in 2,800 European cities of 28 countries.
In 2002, JCDecaux invented the first generation of self-service bicycles. 900 bicycles have been installed in Vienna (Austria), followed by the installation of bicycles in Cordoba and Gijon (Spain). In 2005, Lyon was equipped with 2,000 new generation bicycles that are even safer and more reliable than before. Since September 2006, Lyon has been equipped with 3,000 bicycles and 250 racks. Brussels, Marseille, Aix en Provence, Mulhouse, Besançon, Paris, Sevilla, Rouen, Amiens, Luxembourg and Nantes have joined the list of the cities equipped with self-service bicycles.
